A solution of 5-bromo-4′-fluoro[1,1′-biphenyl]-2-ol (7.00 g), potassium carbonate (3.80 g) and benzyl bromide (3.27 ml) in DMF (10 ml) was stirred at 60° C. for 5 h. The reaction mixture was diluted with water, extracted with ethyl acetate, washed with water and saturated brine and dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate. The solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure and the residue was purified by silica gel chomatography (eluent; hexane→hexane:ethyl acetate=10:1) to give the title compound (8.31 g) as a brown oil.
