Procedure

To a suspension of sodium hydride (0.17 g) in dimethylformamide (10 mL) at 0 C is added a solution of Example 22 (1.0 g) in dry dimethylformamide (10 mL). After stirring for 30 minutes, the reaction is treated with methyl iodide (0.5 mL), warmed to room temperature and allowed to stir for 12 hours. The reaction mixture is poured into cold 10% HCl and the product extracted out with CH2Cl2. The organic phases are combined, washed with brine, dried over MgSO4, filtered and concentrated. Using the procedure outlined in Example 2, the resulting residue can be reduced to provide after chromatography on silica gel and salt formation the desired product.
