To a stirred solution of ethyl 10-amino-3-hydroxy-4-oxo-4,6,7,8,9,10-hexahydro-7,10-ethanopyrimido[1,2-a]azepine-2-carboxylate (250 mg, 0.895 mmol) and 2-(dimethylamino)-2-oxoacetic acid (157 mg, 1.343 mmol) in DMF (6 mL) was added diisopropyl-ethylamine (0.498 mL, 2.86 mmol), 4-(dimethylamino)pyridine (DMAP) (21.87 mg, 0.179 mmol) and O-(7-azabenzotriazol-1-yl)-N,N,N′,N′-tetramethyluronium hexafluorophosphate (HATU) (511 mg, 1.343 mmol) and the resulting mixture stirred at room temperature for 5 hr. Solvent was removed under reduced pressure. The crude material was diluted with ethyl acetate (50 mL) and washed with 1N HCl (20 mL), dried (Na2SO4) and concentrated to yield the title compound.
