Procedure
In a manner similar to the method described in Example 50a, 5-chloro-2-fluorobenzaldehyde (4.2 g, 26 mmol) (Alfa) was reacted with methyl 4-hydroxybenzoate (4 g, 28 mmol)(Aldrich) and K2CO3 in N,N-dimethylacetamide to give 4-(4-chloro-2-formyl-phenoxy)-benzoic acid methyl ester as a white solid (Yield 6.1 g, 80%).
