0.55 mg of 2,3-dimethyl-7-(1-diethylamino-2-hydroxyethyl)benzofuran and 100 ml of a 0.1N solution of hydrochloric acid in isopropanol are placed in a 100 ml round-bottom flask. The salt is concentrated under vacuum and recrystallized from ethyl acetate. 0.561 g of 2,3-dimethyl-7-(1-diethylamino-2-hydroxyethyl)benzofuran hydrochloride is obtained. M.p.=160-161° C.
