To a solution of (2-{3-[4-(4-fluoro-benzyl)-(2R,5S)-2,5-dimethyl-piperazin-1-yl]-3-oxo-propyl}-5-methyl-phenoxy)-acetic acid methyl ester (0.18 g, 0.40 mmol) in 2:2:1 tetrahydrofuran:methanol:water (5 mL) was added lithium hydroxide hydrate (0.026 g, 0.62 mmol) and the reaction was stirred at ambient temperature for 2 hours. The reaction was diluted with 0.2 M hydrochloric acid, then extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic layer was dried over magnesium sulfate and concentrated in vacuo. The crude product was purified by trituration in methylene chloride/diethyl ether to give the title compound (0.16 g).
