Procedure

Compound 10 (2.2 g, 3.4 mmol) was dissolved in methanol (5 mL) and THF (5 mL). 1.0 M K2CO3 (10 mL) was added and the reaction mixture was heated at 40° C. for 96 hours. The reaction mixture was acidified to pH 3 with 2N HCl and extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic layer was washed with brine, dried over Na2SO4, filtered, and concentrated in vacuo to yield 1.68 g (86%) product as a beige foam, compound 11. The crude material was used without purification.
