To a solution of 3-(5-chloro-2-{2-[4-(4-fluoro-benzyl)-(2R,5S)-2,5-dimethyl-piperazin-1-yl]-2-oxo-ethoxy}-phenyl)-propionic acid ethyl ester (1.3 g, 2.7 mmol) in tetrahydrofuran (10 mL), methanol (10 mL) and water (4 mL) was added lithium hydroxide monohydrate (0.57 g, 13.3 mmol). The reaction was stirred at ambient temperature for 12 hours, then made acidic by the addition of 1 M hydrochloric acid. The solution was then extracted with methylene chloride and the organic layer was dried over magnesium sulfate. Concentration in vacuo gave the title compound (1.0 g).
