Procedure

8-{5-[(Dimethylamino)methyl]pyridin-2-yl}-1,4-dioxaspiro[4,5]decan-8-ol (0.85 g, 2.9 mmol) was dissolved in 10 mL of THF and 10 mL of 2 N HCl solution was added. After being stirred for two hours, the reaction mixture was neutralized to pH˜8-9 by addition of a saturated NaHCO3 aqueous solution and extracted twice using EtOAc. The combined extracts were dried and concentrated to obtain 0.37 g of white solid (51% yield), MS: 249.2 (M++1).
