Procedure
To a solution of the product from Example 156A (2.13 g) in mixture of water (11 mL) and acetone (5.5 mL) at room temperature were added sodium bicarbonate (3.7 g, 44.0 mmol) and sodium hydroxide solution (6.6 mL, 1 N). To this mixture was added a solution of oxone in water (4.75 g in 15 mL) dropwise at room temperature and the reaction was stirred for 2 hours. Ethyl acetate was added and the solution was adjusted to pH 3 with concentrated HCl. The organic was washed with brine and dried over MgSO4, filtered and evaporated. The residue was chromatographed on silica gel eluting with a gradient starting with dichloromethane and ending with 20% methanol in dichloromethane to give the product (0.70 g, 42% over 2 steps).
