Ethyl chloroformate (60 μL, 0.63 mmol) was added to a suspension of N-{1-[(2Z)-2-amino-2-(hydroxyimino)ethyl]-2-oxo-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinolin-3-yl}-2-chloro-6H-thieno[2,3-b]pyrrole-5-carboxamide (Example 31; 200 mg, 0.48 mmol) in dry pyridine (1 mL) under an inert atmosphere then stirred heated to 100° C. for 30 minutes. On cooling THF (10 mL) and added followed by EtOAc (50 mL) and 1M HCl aq. (20 mL). The organic was separated and dried (Na2SO4), filtered and evaporated to give a clear orange oil. This was used in the next stage without characterization or purification.
