Procedure

108 mg of (S)—N2′-[1-(4-fluorophenyl)ethyl]-6-methoxy-N6′-(pyrazin-2-yl)-3,4′-bipyridine-2′,6′-diamine was dissolved in 3 ml of acetonitrile, 116 mg of sodium iodide and 99 μl of trimethylsilyl chloride were added, and the mixture was stirred at 70° C. for 3.5 hours under argon atmosphere. The reaction solution was diluted with ethyl acetate and water, and the pH of the mixture was adjusted to 9 by using saturated sodium bicarbonate aqueous solution. The organic layer was washed with brine, and then dried over magnesium sulfate. The solvent was distilled off under reduced pressure, and the obtained residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography to obtain 78 mg of (S)-2′-[1-(4-fluorophenyl)ethylamino]-6′-(pyrazin-2-ylamino)-3,4′-bipyridin-6-ol as pale yellow powder. The obtained compound was dissolved in methanol, and an equivalent of 1N hydrochloric acid was added thereto, and then the solvent was removed to obtain the objective compound as pale yellow powder.
