Procedure

To a stirred solution of 27.25 g 2-amino-3(4-isopropoxyindole-3-yl)butanoic acid ethylester in 70 ml ethylacetate was added 9.99 g glyoxylic acid hydrate dissolved in 70 ml water. The mixture was adjusted to pH 4 (10% K2CO3 -solution) and further stirred at room temperature for 6 hours. The yellow precipitate was collected by filtration, washed with ethylacetate and dried.
