To a solution of 4-amino-6-methoxy-[1,5]naphthyridine (7a) (2.1 g, 13.5 mmol) and 4-(dimethylamino)pyridine (1.62 g) in anhydrous chloroform (45 ml) was added N,N-carbonyldiimidazole (3.28 g, 20.1 mmol). The mixture was stirred for 4 hours at room temperature, then evaporated and the residue was dissolved in anhydrous N,N-dimethylformamide (45 ml). 4-tert-Butoxycarbonylaminopiperidine hydrochloride (3.34 g, 13.5 mmol) and potassium carbonate (1.89 g) were added, and the mixture was heated at 70° C. overnight. The mixture was evaporated and the residue was mixed with water (120 ml). The solid was filtered off and dried (3.89 g).
