Procedure
8-Cyclopentyl-6-(1-ethoxy-vinyl)-5-methyl-2-(3,4,5,6-tetrahydro-2H-[1,3′]bipyridinyl-6′-ylamino)-8H-pyrido[2,3-d]pyrimidin-7-one (0.180 g, 0.379 mmol) was dissolved in ethyl acetate (10 mL) and 6 N HCl (10 mL) was added then the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 2 hours. The mixture was diluted with dichloromethane and aqueous NaHCO3. The layers were separated and the organic layer was dried over MgSO4, filtered, and the solvent evaporated to give 6-acetyl-8-cyclopentyl-5-methyl-2-(3,4,5,6-tetrahydro-2H-[1,3′]bipyridinyl-6′-ylamino)-8H-pyrido[2,3-d]pyrimidin-7-one as a yellow solid (0.120 g, 71.0%). 1H NMR δ (400 MHz, CDCl3) 8.78 (s, 1H), 8.20 (d, J=8.5 Hz, 1H), 7.95 (s, 1H), 7.39 (m, 1H), 5.85 (m, 1H), 3.15 (m, 4H), 2.53 (s, 3H), 2.36 (s, 3H), 2.33 (m, 2H), 2.05 (m, 2H), 1.87 (m, 2H), 1.77–1.56 (m, 8H).
