To a solution of 2 g 8-[2-(3-indolyl)ethyl]-1-oxa-3,8-diazaspiro[4.5]decan-2-one in 20 ml i-propyl alcohol is added sufficient 3% methanolic hydrogen chloride to make the solution acid to litmus. Addition of 250 ml diethyl ether followed by filtration affords 1.89 g 8-[2-(3-indolyl)ethyl]-1-oxa-3,8-diazaspiro[4.5]decan-2-one hydrochloride, mp 249°-254° (d).
