Procedure
To a solution of 2-[4-(4-carboxybenzoyl)benzyl]thio-3,5-dimethyl-4(3H)-quinazolinone (0.320 g, 0.720 mmol) in DMF (5.0 ml) were added DEPC (0.37 g, 2.27 mmol) and 1-methylpiperazine (0.200 ml, 1.80 mmol) and the mixture was stirred at room temperature overnight. The solvent was then distilled off and the residue was dissolved in ethyl acetate and washed with saturated aqueous NaCl solution. The organic layer was dried over MgSO4 and concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (methylene chloride: methanol: ammonia=20:1:0.1). The resulting solid was recrystallized from ethanol to provide colorless needles.
