Procedure

A mixture of 3-bromo-4-(3-fluorophenoxy)benzoic acid (step 2, 550 mg, 1.77 mmol) and 1,1′-carbonyldiimidazole (430 mg, 2.65 mmol) in N,N-dimethylformamide (10 mL) was stirred at 60° C. for 1 h. After cooling to 0° C., 25% ammonia solution was added slowly to the mixture. The resulting mixture was stirred at room temperature for 16 h. The mixture was pored into 2 M hydrochloric acid (100 mL) and the whole was extracted with ethyl acetate (200 mL). The organic layer was dried over magnesium sulfate and evaporated in vacuo. The residue was purified by flush column chromatography on silica gel eluting with hexane/ethyl acetate (1/1) to give 441 mg (80%) of the title compound as white solids: 1H-NMR (CDCl3) δ 8.14 (1H, d, J=2.2 Hz), 7.74 (1H, dd, J=8.6, 2.2 Hz), 7.36–7.27 (1H, m), 6.97–6.59 (6H, m).
