Procedure
To a solution of ethyl (2E)-3-[3-(4-fluorophenyl)-1H-indazol-5-yl]prop-2-enoate (0.10 g, 0.32 mmol) in tetrahydrofuran (10 mL) was added a solution of lithium hydroxide (0.032 mg, 1.6 mmol) in water (5 mL) and the mixture was stirred at ambient temperature overnight. The reaction mixture was acidified with 6 N hydrochloric acid solution to give a white solid. It was then purified by HPLC to provide the title compound (0.43 g, 48% yield): 1H NMR (DMSO-d6) δ 13.45 (br s, 1H), 12.28 (br s, 1H), 8.39 (s, 1H), 8.11 (d, 1H), 8.10 (d, 1H), 7.83 (d, 1H), 7.79 (d, 1H), 7.60 (d, 1H), 7.35 (t, 2H), 6.57 (d, 1H); ES-MS (m/z) 283 [M+1]+.
