200 mg of 4-benzyl-5-bromo-2-(3-hydroxy-1-butynyl)pyridine (Example 189a) and 10 mg of platinum (IV) oxide were added to 10 ml of methanol, 10 ml of tetrahydrofuran and 10 ml of ethyl acetate, followed by stirring at room temperature at normal pressure in a hydrogen atmosphere overnight. The catalyst was filtered off and the filtrate was evaporated, to give 50 mg of the target compound.
