3-methyl-5-trifluoromethylpyrazole was taken into dry DMF (20 mL) and N-chloro succinimide (1.78 g) was added in portions. The mixture was then heated at 70° C. for 22 h, cooled to room temperature, and then water (100 mL) was added and the mixture extracted with ethyl acetate (4×25 mL). The organic layer was washed with water and brine and dried with Na2SO4. Evaporation of the solvent afforded the title compound.
