Procedure

To a solution of 1b (1.3 g, 3.7 mmol) in DMF (10 mL) was added 1,1′-carbonyl diimidazole (1.2 g, 7.4 mmol). The resultant solution was stirred for 1 h and mixed with ammonium hydroxide (37%, 5 mL). The mixture was diluted with brine solution (100 mL) and extracted with ethyl acetate (100 mL). The combined organic phases were dried over MgSO4, filtered, and concentrated. Flash chromatography (hexanes/ethyl acetate, 4:1) then provided compound 1c as a yellow solid.
