Procedure
10 mg of methyl 11-(3-hydroxymethyl-4-oxo-2-oxetanyl)-4,5-dihydroxy-3,5,7-trimethyl-2-undecenoate in 2 ml of EtOAc was added 35 mg of silver oxide and 0.3 ml of methyl iodide. The mixture was heated at 53° C. overnight. The solution was filtered and concentrated by dryness. The product was purified by prep. TLC (EtOAc:Hexane=1:1) to afford methyl 11-(3-methoxymethyl-4-oxo-2-oxetanyl)-4,5-dihydroxy-3,5,7-trimethyl-2-undecenoate. ##STR26##
