Procedure

To a solution of 4-methoxy-3-(2-methoxyethoxy)benzaldehyde (10 g) in AcOH (80 mL) was added KOAc (9.5 g) and NH2OH.HCl (6.7 g). The resulting mixture was heated at 130° C. for 18 h under N2 atmospheres. After reaction finished, the mixture was poured into water (400 mL). The solid was collected, washed with water (100 mL) and air-dried to give 4-methoxy-3-(2-methoxyethoxy)benzonitrile (8.8 g) as a light yellow solid.
