A mixture of 1-benzyl-3-bromomethyl-6-oxo-1,6-dihydro-pyridine-2-carboxylic acid ethyl ester (147 mg, 0.42 mmol), (toluene-4-sulfonylamino)-acetic acid methyl ester (112 mg, 0.46 mmol), sodium iodide (126 mg, 0.84 mmol) and potassium carbonate (116 mg, 0.84 mmol) in DMF (4 mL) was stirred at r.t. for 16 h. Brine (20 mL) were added, and the mixture was extracted with EtOAc. The organic layers were combined, washed with water, and dried over MgSO4. After evaporating the solvent in vacuo, the crude product was purified by silica gel chromatography (0-60% EtOAc/hexanes) to give 140 mg of the title compound. MS: (+) m/z 513.34 (M+1).
