A solution of N-(1,4-dioxaspiro[4.5]dec-8-yl)-1H-pyrazol-5-amine (0.30 g), 1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undec-7-ene (0.017 mL) and ethyl 2-[(2′-cyano-2-methoxybiphenyl-4-yl)methyl]-3-oxohexanoate (0.26 g) in diethylaniline (2 mL) was stirred at 180° C. for 2 hr. The mixture was allowed to cool, ethyl acetate and water were added, and the mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic layer was washed with water and saturated brine, dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate, and concentrated. The residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography to give the title compound as a pale-yellow amorphous solid (0.25 g, 70%).
