4-(9-Methoxycarbonylnonyloxy)benzoic acid tert-butyl ester (858 mg, 2.27 mmol) was dissolved in THF (5 ml), and 1N NaOH (2.27 mmol) was added. The mixture was stirred for 16 h. AcOEt (40 mL) and 1N HCl (2.38 ml) in water (25 ml) were added. The phases were separated, and the organic phase was dried over MgSO4, and concentrated under vacuum to yield a white solid (781 mg, 95% yield).
