Procedure
Ethyl 5-methyl-1H-pyrrole-2-carboxylate (1.1 g) and benzyl bromide (1.35 g) in N,N-dimethylformamide (30 mL) was treated with NaH (95%, 0.5 g) overnight. The reaction was quenched with ice water. The mixture was diluted with ethyl acetate and washed with brine. The organic layer was dried over Na2SO4, filtered, and concentrated to provide the title compound.
