Procedure
A stirred solution of trans 8-(2,4,5-trifluorophenyl)-1,4-dioxaspiro[4.5]decane-7-carboxylate from Step E (1.82 g, 5.5 mmol) dissolved in tetrahydrofuran (11 mL) and methanol (22 mL) was treated with aqueous lithium hydroxide solution (1.OM, 18.5 mL) and the mixture was stirred at room temperature overnight. The reaction solution was acidified with hydrochloric acid (1N) to pH 1 and extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic phase was washed by saturated brine solution, dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate and evaporated to yield the title compound.
