Procedure
The titled compound was prepared substantially in accordance with the method detailed in Example 1 using 2.60 g (5 mmol) of p-nitrobenzyl-3-[(S)-4-phenyloxazolidin-2-one-3-yl]-4-[2-furylethyl]-azetidin-2-one-1-ethanoate, 20 ml of ethyl acetate and 2.0 g (15 mmol) of lithium iodide. The reaction mixture was allowed to react for approximately 71/2 hours at reflux temperature to provide 1.54 g of a light yellow solid.
