Procedure
To a solution of 4-bromophenol (500 mg, 2.9 mmol) in ACN (14.5 mL), 2,2-dibromo cyclopentanone (1.4 g, 8.7 mmol) and DIPEA (500 mg, 2.9 mmol) were added. The resulting mixture was stirred at r.t overnight. After completion of the reaction as confirmed by TLC, the reaction mixture was diluted with ethylacetate (150 mL), washed with water (50 mL) and brine (50 mL) successively. The combined organic layers were dried over Na2SO4 and the volatiles were evaporated in vacuo. The residue obtained was purified by column chromatography (silica gel, 1:9 EtOAc:hexane) to provide title compound (461 mg, 63%) as pale brown liquid.
