Ethyl 2-(4-bromophenyl)pyrazolo[1,5-a]pyridine-5-carboxylate (2.40 g, 7.0 mmol) was dissolved in THF (50 mL) and water was added (12 mL) followed by LiOH—H2O (877 mg, 20.9 mmol). The mixture was stirred overnight at room temperature and 1M HCl (ca 28 mL) was added. The mixture was extracted with EtOAc (2×25 mL) and the combined organic layers were washed with brine, dried over anhydrous MgSO4, filtered and concentrated under reduced pressure to afford a crude white solid that was directly used into the next step. LCMS m/z 317.0, 319.0 (M+H)+, ret. time 2.62 min.
