Procedure

To a tetrahydrofuran solution (2.0 mL) of tert-butyl 3-hydroxyazetidine-1-carboxylate (87 mg, 0.50 mmol), sodium hydride (33 mg, 0.75 mmol, purity 55%) was added at 0° C. and the resultant solution was stirred for 30 minutes. Subsequently, 4-fluorobenzyl bromide (62.3 μL, 0.50 mmol) was added to the reaction solution and the resultant mixture was stirred at room temperature for 19 hours. After completion of the reaction, water was added to the reaction solution and extraction with ethyl acetate from the resultant mixture was performed three times. The organic layer was washed with brine, dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, and concentrated under reduced pressure. The obtained residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (hexane/ethyl acetate) to obtain the title compound (68.5 mg, yield 49%).
