To a solution of 1-bromo-2-(bromomethyl)-3,5-dichlorobenzene (1.98 mmol) [J. Med. Chem., 35 (22), 4221 (1992)] in 10 mL CH3CN were added phthalimide (1.98 mmol) and K2CO3 (5.93 mmol). The reaction mixture was stirred at 50° C. for 6 h and then at RT overnight. Sat. aq. NaHCO3 solution was added and the mixture was extracted 3 times with DCM. The combined organic phases were dried over MgSO4 and concentrated in vacuo to obtain the desired product as beige solid.
