A mixture of 3-cyclohexyl-N-(2,3-dihydro-1-methyl-5-phenyl-2-thioxo-1H-1,4-benzodiazepin-3-yl)propanamide (740 mg, 1.83 mmol), hydroxylamine hydrochloride (140 mg, 2 mmol) and triethylamine (280 μL, 203 mg, 2 mmol) in methanol (15 mL)/THF (15 mL) was stirred at room temperature for 3 h. The solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure and the residue was purified by flash column chromatography on silica gel, eluting with CH2Cl2 /MeOH (98:2). The residue recrystallized from ethyl acetate. The first isomer to crystallize was recrystallized from ethyl acetate to give (E)-3-cyclohexyl-N-(2,3-dihydro-2-hydroxyimino-5-phenyl-1H-1,4-benzodiazepin-3-yl)propanamide as a solid, m.p. 196° C.
