To a solution of the product from Step A (31.0 g 97.0 mmol) in THF (100 mL) was added 3N HCl and the mixture stirred for 6 h at room temperature. Brine (100 mL) was added and the mixture extracted with ethyl acetate (3×100 mL). The combined extracts were washed with brine (20.0 mL), dried (MgSO4) and evaporated to yield a white solid (22.0 g, 82%): mp 74°-76° C.
