Procedure

A mixture of 4-(4-chlorophenyl)-2-(3-iodopropyl)oxazole (0.5 g), guaiacol (0.19 ml), potassium carbonate (0.24 g) and N,N-dimethylformamide (5 ml) was stirred for 30 minutes at 60° to 65° C. and poured into water. The precipitated crystals were collected by filtration to obtain 4-(4-chlorophenyl)-2-[3-(2-methoxyphenoxy) propyl]oxazole (0.445 g, 90%). Recrystallization from ether-hexane gave colorless prisms of mp 94°-95° C.
