Procedure

A suspension of 3-(4-bromobutyl)-4-thiazolidinone (3.0 g), 1-(2-methoxyphenyl)piperazine (2.43 g), anhydrous K2CO3 (3 g) and NaI (200 mg) in 100 ml of anhydrous CH3CN was heated to reflux under N2. After 18 hours the mixture was cooled to room temperature and filtered. The filtrate was concentrated in vacuo, and the residue taken up and chromatographed (silica, EtOAc eluent) to provide 3.49 g of product as a white solid, mp 80°-81° C.
