Procedure

To a suspension of 60% sodium hydride (85 mg) in N,N-dimethylformamide (10 ml) was added a solution of 5-bromo-3-methyl-1H-indazole (500 mg) in N,N-dimethylformamide (1 ml) at 0° C., and the mixture was stirred at the same temperature for 30 min. To the obtained reaction mixture was added propyl iodide (0.35 ml), and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 3 hr. To the reaction mixture was added saturated aqueous ammonium chloride solution, and the mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic layer was washed with saturated brine, dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, and concentrated under reduced pressure. The obtained residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (hexane/ethyl acetate) to give the title compound (100 mg).
