To a solution of bis(4-methoxyphenyl)methanamine (846 mg), trans-4-(hydroxymethyl)cyclohexanecarboxylic acid (500 mg), and triethylamine (1.322 mL) in N,N-dimethylformamide (30 mL) was added benzotriazol-1-yloxytris(dimethylamino)phosphonium hexafluorophosphate reagent (1.677 g). The resulting mixture was stirred for 3 hours, diluted with ethyl acetate, washed with water, aqueous NaOH and brine. The organic layer was dried over Na2SO4, filtered, and concentrated. The residue was dissolved in dichloromethane and loaded into a silica cartridge, eluted with 0-100% ethyl acetate in hexane to provide the title compound.
