To a solution of 1-{4′-[4-(2-hydroxy-ethyl)-3-methyl-isoxazol-5-yl]-biphenyl-4-yl}-cyclopropanecarboxylic acid ethyl ester (0.144 g, 0.37 mmol) and (bromomethyl)cyclopropane (0.04 mL, 0.44 mmol) in DMF (1.4 mL) as added sodium hydride (60% in mineral oil, 0.022 g, 0.55 mmol) and the reaction was stirred at room temperature. Analytical LCMS indicated that there was a mixture of products, including the hydrolyzed acid, so the mixture was submitted to aqueous workup procedure and purified by silica gel chromatography (0-100% EtOAc in hexanes). Fractions containing the desired product were purified by preparative HPLC to give the title compound.
