N,N-dimethylformamide-dimethylacetal (DMF-DMA) (9.5 ml) was added to a solution of 1-(thieno[3,2-c]pyridin-2-yl)ethanone (3.17 g) in 20 mL DMF. The reaction was heated to 70° C. overnight. The reaction was then cooled to room temperature. The DMF was removed on a rotary evaporator to obtain a dark brown orange solid. The residue was diluted with EtOAc and water. A large amount of yellow solid was evident. This was collected by filtration (3.54 g). This solid was dried in a 50° C. vacuum oven.
