To a solution of methyl 1-oxo-1,2-dihydroisoquinoline-7-carboxylate (32.5 mg, 0.16 mmol) in DMF (1.50 mL) was added potassium carbonate (66 mg, 0.48 mmol) and benzyl bromide (38.1 μL, 0.32 mmol). The reaction mixture was heated to 60° C. and stirred for 5 h. The mixture was then cooled to rt and concentrated. Water was added and the reaction mixture was extracted with DCM (5 mL, 3×). The combined organic phases were then washed with water, and brine, dried over anhydrous Na2SO4, filtered and concentrated to afford methyl 2-benzyl-1-oxo-1,2-dihydroisoquinoline-7-carboxylate. LC-MS: (FA) ES+ 294.
