Procedure
To a solution of 2-(4-cyclopropylpiperazin-1-yl)benzothiazole-6-carboxaldehyde (500 mg, 1.7 mmol) in MeOH (14 mL) and THF (28 mL) was added piperidine (290 mg, 3.4 mmol), acetic acid (22 mg, 0.4 mmol) and NaCNBH3 (158 mg, 2.7 mmol). The mixture was stirred at 63° C. overnight. The reaction mixture was concentrated under reduced pressure and CH2Cl2 (15 mL) was added to the residue. The mixture was washed with brine, dried (MgSO4) and concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by preparative HPLC to give 332 mg (28%) of 2-(4-cyclopropylpiperazin-1-yl)-6-(piperidin-1-ylmethyl)benzothiazole as a trifluoroacetate salt.
