Procedure

To a solution of methyl 1,2-dimethyl-5-(2-(1-methyl-1H-benzo[d]imidazol-2-yl)ethylcarbamoyl)-1H-imidazole-4-carboxylate (98 mg, 276 μmol) in THF (2 mL) and MeOH (1 mL) at room temperature was added LiOH (1M, 1.1 mL, 1.1 mmol). The reaction mixture was stirred at r. t. for 6 h. The reaction mixture was acidified with hydrochloric acid (1M, 1.5 mL), all volatiles were removed in vacuo and the residue was suspended in dichloromethane/MeOH (95:5) and filtered. The liquid was evaporated and dried in vacuo to give the product as colorless amorphous material (95 mg, 264 μmol, 95.9%) which was used without any further purification for the next step. MS: M=340.2 (M−H)−
