Procedure

Cesium carbonate (171 mg, 0.53 mmol) and benzyl bromide (0.05 ml, 0.42 mmol) were added to a solution of ethyl 3-{4-hydroxy-3-[(3-pyridinylamino)carbonyl]phenyl}propanoate (may be prepared as described in Description 98; 110 mg, 0.35 mmol) in N,N-dimethylformamide (10 ml). The mixture was stirred for one hour and then ethyl acetate (10 ml) and water (10 ml) were added. The organic layer was separated, washed further with water (3×10 ml), dried (MgSO4) and the solvent removed in vacuo to yield the title compound as a yellow solid. 126 mg.
