Procedure
Compound 143 (76 mg, 0.30 mmol) is dissolved in 2 ml dichloromethane and cooled to 0° C. Thionyl chloride (0.05 mL) is added and the resulting solution is stirred at room temperature for 2 h. The solvent and excess thionyl chloride are evaporated. The residue is dissolved in 1.0 ml DMF and added to a solution of piperonyl amine (227 mg, 1.5 mmol) in DMF (2 mL) containing 100 mg potassium carbonate. The resulting mixture is stirred at room temperature for 2 h, then diluted with 20 ml of ethyl acetate, washed with water and brine, dried, and concentrated. The resulting residue is purified with silica gel chromatography (hexanes/ethyl acetate, from 2:1 to 1:1) to provide compound 144. MS (+VE) m/z 382 (M+1).
