3-Hydroxybenzoic acid was reacted with N-methyl-2-imidazoylchloride in the presence of potassium carbonate in dimethylformamide to produce the ether adduct as shown. Subsequent reactions as described previously with 5-bromo-2,3-diaminopyridine followed by microwave reaction gave the final product. 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3) δ ppm 8.37 (s, 1H), 8.09 (s, 1H), 7.84 (s, 1H), 7.35 (m, 3H), 6.95 (m, 1H), 6.87 (m, 1H), 6.73 (m, 1H), 5.30 (s, 2H), 2.25 (s, 3H); Calc'd for C17H14BrN5O; m/z (M+2H+)=385; found 385.
