A solution of methyl 4-[[4-[methyl[2-(4-phenoxyphenyl)ethyl]amino]-1-piperidinyl]methyl]benzoate (about 0.71 mmol) in aqueous THF was treated with an aqueous solution of lithium hydroxide. The reaction was acidified with TFA. Purification by preparatory HPLC gave 40 mg of 4-[[4-[methyl[2-(4-phenoxyphenyl)ethyl]amino]-1-piperidinyl]methyl]benzoic acid; 1H NMR (400 MHz, DMSO-d6) δ 7.95 (d, 2H), 7.56 (dbr, 2H), 7.32 (ddd, 2H), 7.26 (d, 2H), 7.07 (tt, 1H), 6.88-6.96 (m, 4H), 4.27 (br, 2H), 3.25 (br, 3H), 2.86 (br, 4H), 2.72 (s, 3H), 2.14 (br, 2H) 1.85 (br, 2H) ppm.
