Procedure
A mixture of 3-bromo-4,5-dihydroxy-benzaldehyde (1 g), lithium carbonate (314 mg), 3-methoxybenzyl chloride (742 μl) and a catalytic amount of tetrabutylammonium iodide in DMF (5 ml) was stirred at 60° C. for 17 h. The mixture was diluted with ethyl acetate and washed with water. The organic layer was dried (MgSO4), filtered and concentrated in vacuo.
